triplemaya Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Hi The install fails at the second screen where it says New Installation Please customize the new installation with the following options: I press continue, and I get the same screen again. I have tried all four configurations of the tick boxes! I have spent many hours before I got to this point overcoming the error message Server Requirement Error: register_globals is disabled in your PHP configuration. This can be enabled in your php.ini configuration file or in the .htaccess file in your catalog directory. None of the ordinary remedies worked - php_value register_globals 1 in .htaccess - so in the end I added the Register Globals Patch Files from http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...egister+globals This enabled the install to commence, but it will only go to the second screen. A solution would be very welcome and much appreciated.
grandpa Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 I have the same problem. I cannot get past the second screen. I have tried with every combination of the checkboxes, I have manually uploaded the database and I have manually edited the configure.php file in an effort to push past this screen. Nothing is showing up on the error log. Any ideas?
Rapid- Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Yep you've guessed it i have the same problem Is there a fix for this? :D
triplemaya Posted November 3, 2006 Author Posted November 3, 2006 Well, I fixed it! I gave up and went to a different hosting setup, since the support team at that hosting didn't seem to be able to offer any suggestions. In case it helps anyone else:- There are a number of hosts which offer oscommerce for free, already set up. Google brings up quite a few, of which most are in the oscommerce hosting directory. Most of the hosting packages in the oscommerce hosting directory, which is at http://oscommerce-hosting-directory.com/in...cb362186cd940ea are in the us, and we wanted someone in the uk. In the uk are Site HQ and Net Explorers. We really wanted phone support, but neither of these do that, and it tends to come only with the more expensive packages, but Net Explorers do online chat, 24/7, which is nearly as good, so we chose them. We started out with pipex, because they are a big name, and do phone support, but could not get the oscommerce installed. First there was a very time consuming problem with 'register_globals'. They said it should work, and they couldn't understand why it didn't work, and they offered one or two suggestions. Which didn't work. Editing .htaccess and php.ini in the ordinary way didn't work. So. I installed the patches for this problem. Then it froze at the second screen. And they didn't know what to do about that either! So We moved.
triplemaya Posted November 3, 2006 Author Posted November 3, 2006 The Pipex support staff have now sent me an email saying that the problem lies with this script: ~/catalog/includes/functions/database.php and suggesting that the login or access to the database is at fault. I have looked in the file, but I don't know enough about the php code or databases to understand what might be going wrong. HTH someone
