Please critique my site!

Both positive and negative

Brain Building Toys

I have a low conversion rate(.28%) and am trying to figure out why.

Thanks for your input!

In Firefox, the site looks nice. But in IE (which is the browser you need to code for), the "Smart Moms buy Smart Toys..." text is quite large and doesn't fit the page and the menu is partially covered by the breadcrumb. This give an almost child-like appearance to the site and is probably giving a very bad first impression. A lot of people won't buy from a shop that looks like it was just thrown together.

You did well with the tabs and plain text. Simple but it works. However your header feels disjointed. You have your brain logo in the upper left, the phone number in the upper right, the "Smart Mom (hey what about Dads?)... text and then suddenly you have your tabbed navigation below it. It feels like you are wasting a lot of vertical space. I would definitely tighten that up.

Thanks Jack & Roy!

I made some adjustments.

What do you think now?

I think your site looks nice, I would work on the logo. I would like to see more color, and more excitment happening at the top of your page.

Your "hacker safe" logo might move down the page a little.

Although easy to read, I might shrink your font down a little on your products pages. It looks a little home spun that big.

The "shipping quote" doen't seem to be working. I like that. Where did you get that?

Your tabs and boxes look great, I would like to have those on my site. Any tips?

Great job so far..

I would put a search entry box on the home page.

90% of my customers go right for that box even with gobs of menu selections available!

  • The general font size (product names/prices) should be larger. The prices should be large and easy to read. (Speaking about the main page)
  • I'm not a big fan of the default way PWA is displayed on the login page. Consider making it one big box with three options. Right now it seems to complex.
  • The masthead is too white. You don't have to add a dark solid color, but need something to anchor the page down. A gradient might even work.
  • You should have a search field on every page at the same position.
  • I'd move the big hunk of text on the main page to your About Us page. 99% of your visitors aren't going to read through that and by dropping it from the main page, your site will load faster.

I don't know if a contribution exists, but I like displaying prices like this:

$9.98

$12.98

Save 20%

With a "Buy Now" button right below. People think, "Hey, they have some great deals here!" instead of seeing a bunch of prices that look like MSRP. People shop on the net to save money, so do everything you can to convince them that they will save money by shopping with you.

Please use the forums for support! I am happy to help you here, but I am unable to offer free technical support over instant messenger or e-mail.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I am slowly implementing suggestions.

How does it look now?
