need products to be three column

I have been working on reconfiguring a website and need help.

 

The website i am working on needs to show three product columns that i fixed temporarily. When i click on a category for a product the site displays back into a two column layout. would anyone know how to hunt down the problem. I changed the new_products.php file to display 3 columns on the home page but like i said when you actually go to a product category it displays back to two column.
