Default Flat Rate from Demo Site Shows Up After I Changed It

Thought I'd post this before going to work.

PROBLEM: I changed the default flat shipping rate from the demo site's value of $4.00 to $0.01

for testing purposes. The Flat Rate of $0.01 is always displayed in the osComm shopping cart, but

when I click the Confirm Payment button and go to PayPal, the demo site's Flate Rate

of $4.00 shows up again.

MY GUESS: Maybe the demo site's Flat Rate of $4.00 is preserved somewhere and is passed to PayPal

when I click the Confirm Payment button. I have searched all catalog files and cannot find a relevant

value for "4.00," but of course I might not be dong the search correctly.

DETAILS

My Demo Catalog: http://www.redmoonpress.com/catalog/

I used the Admin tool to change the default Flat [shipping] Rate from the demo site's value ($4.00) to a value of $0.01.

Here are the current values shown in the Admin tool > Shipping Modules page:

Flat Rate

Enable Flat Shipping

True

Shipping Cost

0.01

Tax Class

--none--

Shipping Zone

--none--

Sort Order

0

As I order items in the catalog, the shipping always displays as $0.01. It does so right up until the time

that I confirm my order info and go to the PayPal payment page. Then, the old default Flat Rate of

$4.00 shows up again.

Mot much help to you but I have the same problem. I am advertising free shipping on all orders and have free shipping selected, and zero specified as the shipping charge. On some orders, customers are being charged ?1.50 when they get through to PayPal, even though the invoice shows a zero shipping cost. I've looked everywhere I can think of to look but nothing is set to charge this amount. It only seems to do it on some orders though - someone ordered several items and did not have shipping added, so maybe it's for single items? There is no minimum order quantity or anything though.

Misery loves company, Nicola-H ;-)

As might be true for you, the order verification email I get from the osComm shopping cart shows the $0.01 Flat Rate that I specified for the Admin tool > Shipping Modules page. But the order verification email I get from PayPal shows the $4.00 Flat Rate that was specified in the demo cart installed with the software.

While we are waiting for someone to comment, I'll search the Forum again and my site files.

Sounds like both of you have set up Shipping in your Pay Pal account - so what's being added is being added by Pay Pal and not osCommerce.

Vger,

You are correct in my case at least! I just made the adjustment described below and that fixed my problem.

Thanks for your help.

DETAILS

My client's PayPal account has been in use for years, and I did not realize that this account has a default flat shipping rate of $4.00. This rate needs to stay in place because the ocComm shopping cart is not the only sales channel for my client. Fortunately, PayPal has an option that allows transaction-based shipping settings to override the default settings in PayPal.

Here are the steps to do that:

1. Login to your PayPal account (a business account) and select Profile -> Shipping Calculations.

2. Scroll to the bottom of the Shipping Calculations page to a section called "Miscellaneous ? Allow transaction-based shipping settings to override profile settings (Optional)."

3. Select the check box that enables this option and save your changes.

The ocComm cart's shipping values will now override PayPal's defaults.
