concept8 Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 What SSL cert is good for oscommerce? Currently I am looking at the Geotrust QuickSSL and the QuickSSL Premium. Which ones do you guys think is good for a shopping cart site? Thanks, Noob
Jack_mcs Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Most meduim assurance certificates will work fine. You can find them for as low as $15 if you search the web. The service form godaddy, in my opinion, is better than the other companies I have used so I recommend them over the others. Jack godaddy is good enough for a shopping site which will deal with credit cards?
Gameprodigy Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 You can also check your hosting service, i purchesed and SSL certificate directly from my host and they do all the setup work, they use a GeoTrust service, it cost me 50$ but I figure if there is any problems since I got it directly from my host they will support it no problem.
Jack_mcs Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 godaddy is good enough for a shopping site which will deal with credit cards?Yes, many sites use them. But any certificate is not easy to order and install if you have never done it before. It can be done but, as Gregg mentioned, it might be better to let your host enjoy the aggravation, if they offer that service. If they charge too much though, or if you don't mind doing it, then you can do it yourself. Jack my host charges $99/year for a Geotrust QuickSSL Premium and the setup fee is $30...are these prices consider expensive?
Jack_mcs Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 I think that is too high a price for that certificate. Plus, there really isn't a reason to buy a high assurance certificate, assuming that is what that is. unstrung Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Hi Jack- I have a question about this. I purchased one of the low cost certificates a few months ago. I haven't installed it yet though. My host (Startlogic) couldn't or wouldn't help me install it. How do I go about getting the necessary information to fill out the certificate and install it myself. Since I'm not making enough money at this right now, I really don't want to have to purchase the expensive one from Startlogic in order to have them install it.? Thanks, Diane Yes, many sites use them. But any certificate is not easy to order and install if you have never done it before. Jack_mcs Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Before you can obtain the certificate, you have to generate the key and csr files. If your host has that option enabled in their control panel, then you can do that yourself. If not, you won't be able to do it.
