LittleAnn Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Hi, I have had an Oscommerce store for a past two years. I love it. I had www.siteground.com copy over my files. Would I need to install Oscommerce to my new server so that my store files work?? The person that designed this site for me would not respond nor has given me a copy of the website that I paid for. I would appreciate it if someone could help me. LittleAnn
natewlew Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I you have ftp access to the server that your store is on now you can download the files. You can also do a backup of the store database from within the admin section. Other great Open Source (Free) programs: (Free as in free speech not free beer) The Gimp - An image program. | Firefox - All you have to do is add the Web Developer add-on to make this web browser complete. | FileZilla - An ftp program. | Inkscape - A good program to create images with. | Thunderbird - An email program. | Openoffice.org - An office suite that is compatible with MS Office. | Abiword - Another office suite. | Audacity - A sound recording tool. | ddp's Picks | Wordpress - An easy to use blogging software. | Joomla - An easy to use CMS that has ecommerce plug-ins. | Drupal - Another CMS How do I find these programs? Google Search!
LittleAnn Posted October 29, 2006 Author Posted October 29, 2006 So if I install the Oscommerce on my new server, my old store files will work?? I do have access to the new server and can do it immediately. Here's a little background: I had this website and admin/store custom designed for me. The person is under investigation and probably will not be in business too much longer. I had www.siteground.com make copies of the files for me. In my old FTP area I did not have access to "Back up" my files - it was grayed out (unavailable). In my old admin/store, I did not have access to "back up" data. www.siteground.com was still able to copy to files over to the new website. Thank God!!! I forwarded the domain to the new server - I can now see it on the web. The administrative/shop needs to I guess have me install the Oscommerce in order to have the files work. I think I'm right. I just need to comfirm this information with someone before I proceeded. FYI - I still have access to my old server. I truly appreciate your help. I wish I didn't have to worry about this. I guess I'm a little nervious.
natewlew Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Did they make a backup of your database? You do need a backup of the database. If you have access to a program like phpmyadmin you can do a backup from that.
