Guest Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 There is the Newsletter/Maillist v4.0 contribution. I am needing the same thing done and it looks like this is the easiest contribution to use. I will adding this one soon myself.

It works well and there is now the addition of a report contrib at the same location, which can show who has signed up for the newsletter in the reports area of the admin section. Paul. You will never learn if you don't try. And boy am I trying....!
Guest Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 I just installed this contribution last night - still have to do the report. How can I create a sign in form box (opt-in box) instead of (or in addition to) the text link?

How can I create a sign in form box (opt-in box) instead of (or in addition to) the text link? The text link will take the visitor to the opt in page. To my knowledge there has not yet been a seperate login box built for this package. I am sure that it could be done reasonably easily, so perhaps one for the experts? djmonkey1 Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 There is also this contribution: http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...and+subscribers Do, or do not. There is no try. Order Editor 5.0.6 "Ultra Violet" is now available! For support or to post comments, suggestions, etc, please visit the Order Editor support thread.
Guest Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Stew - thanks for pointing out that one. I wasn't happy with the problems listed in the various versions ... I be over-cautious right now, but I just wasn't comfy. Paul - stinks about the opt-in form ... most surfers are used to seeing one. I just put an ad in the header with a link to the newsletter.php page.
grumpydasmurf Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 I'm not trying to flood the forum asking the same question thrice, but I am seeking info. I've looked at both these mods. I dismissed "newsletter and subscribers" because it uses a 2nd table to store the addresses. I don't know why my mind says this is bad thing, and maybe I don't fully understand how the contrib operates because I did install it, but I worry that someone will end up with the email address stored in twi different ables and thus be subscribed twice. Maybe they unsubscribe from one, but not the other? I am a fan of K.I.S.S. and not sure why a new table needs to be introduced. I searched more and found the older mod Newsletter / mailing list email capture, and this very much looks like it will accomplish what I am asking. However the description of how it works is very vague. Maybe I am being too anal, and maybe I am being too lazy to install them on a test site and try them out. I think the simplest way would be to enter the email address into the existing customer table, but with blank information in the remaining cells. Can someone who has used either of these mods clear up some of my confusion? Grumpy
