file access disabled in server config

Hi guys,

Up until fairly recently, my hosting company allowed the use of PHP to call data from external sites and then paste this information into my own pages - specifically for things like updating the currency exchange rates and similar things. These scripts have been workin flawlessly, but due to security concerns this functionality has now been disabled.

As I use this function a lot (for my postal module (auspost) as well as currency exchange) I made the choice of moving to another host. I spoke to their sales team prior to moving and was advised that this was ok, take on the package, move all my data over.... and find that they have blocked this too!!!!!

Now, their support guy told me I could make use of fsockopen to try to get around this, but as I don't know a great deal of PHO programming, I wouldn't know where to start.

If I leave my site as it is, you cannot place an order, as the postal module is broken - gives an error like this :-

Warning: file(): URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in <file path here>

Then it makes mention of not having a suitable wrapper.

As you can imagine, I want to try and get this fixed fairly urgently as I am unable to do anything on my site till I get around this. Does anyone please have any suggestions/advice on how to sort this out?

Thanks
