brewhaus Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 I am considering OSCommerce for a new site, as opposed to dropping thousands on more web software. We already have SQL Server, and am wondering if this will work with OSC, or if we need to install MySQL as well. If we do need to install MySQL, will it interfere with MS SQL Server? Also, just how involved is the setup for OSC? We have installed Volusion without issues, however, that was relatively straight forward. Will installing OSC be considerably more involved? Rick

Will installing OSC be considerably more involved? We install OSC with one-click at Control Panel level, change a couple of lines in configure files and two minutes later it's up and running.. Yes it uses MySql - check with your techies if it's going to clash with your server. one-click installation.. Dave's info
brewhaus Posted October 25, 2006 Author Posted October 25, 2006 Okay, assuming that MySQL will not interfere with SQL Server (from Microsoft), we are starting from scratch. We must install PHP and MySQL. Are either of these a very involved installation? Once these are installed, and we perform the 'pre-installation' steps for OSC, it sounds like a very straight forward installation. Following OSC installation, I assume that it is simply a matter of setting up the store (layouts, populating the DB, etc.- standard store setup stuff). Am I on track?
