Guest Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 I am currenly using a shell script managed website and the PayPal shopping cart. This solution is not ideal :) So, I am looking at varous open source shopping cart systems, and I have a large number of various questions. I'm sure I could track down the answers to these questions given enough time but I don't want to. I also don't think it's fair to expect free community answers on such a large batch of questions. Is there a consultant whom I could buy a few mintues time to get answers to these questions? Thanks! -Jeff Questions for an open source shopping cart system.... I'm currently looking at: Zen Cart and osCommerce Accounting: ------------------------------------ Can I interface with Quickbooks? How well does this work? Does the imported information include indivudual sales with shopping cart items? Is there a provision for in-person sales? Barcode provision? Statistics: ----------------------------------- Does it have a statistics system that will show me which items are looked at most often? Will it show statistics on abandoned shopping carts? Site organization: ----------------------------------- Can I run multiple stores off of the same machine using apache virtual servers (same IP, different domain name)? How well does it handle nested catagories of items? Can I list the same item under two catagories? For instance if I was selling cars, could I list Toyota Prius under both "Toyota" and "Fuel-effecient"? Can I have a "menu" image for an item and then additional images of that item? Can I have an item link to similar items, e.g. "You might also like..."? Can I have an item that is displayed but can't be put in the shopping cart? I have some items that require custimization. I'd be looking for something like "Send email to (this link) to start the order process". Shipping cost calculations: ----------------------------------- How well does it handle shipping prices on the customer side? Meaning, how good is the logic to handle estimated shipping costs. How can it be configured? Can I enter item weights, and minimum packaging weights to calculate shipping weight? Can I do this on a per item basis when different items require different sized boxes? What about international shipping? Does it have a lookup table for Air Letter Post? Order Fufillment: ----------------------------------- On the order form, can I have it ask if the customer would like to be on my e-mail list? (The default of course would be no.) Will it send confirmation e-mail when something is ordered? Can I batch print packing lists? Can I configure what prints on the packing list? Date, custom message, etc. Will it print customer memo's on the packing lists? Can I give an employee enough access to ship without access to break anything? Will it interface with USPS, FedEX, DHL, or UPS for easier back-end operations? Inventory Management: ----------------------------------- Will it keep track of stock on hand and make the item unavailable when out of stock? Can I configure an individual item to be orderable or not orderable if it is out of stock? Customer Content: ----------------------------------- Can customers add reviews and photos to items? Can I have the system hold them back until they have been reviewed by me? Data Input/Output: ----------------------------------- Can I import item lists from Quickbooks or a spreadsheet? Does it have a Froogle output feed?

Does it have a Froogle output feed? The quick answer to all of your questions is "Yes." The only one I am not sure about is customers uploading photos. Some of these features come stock. Some you need to add contributions to make function. Contributions are programs or methods written or designed by members of the community and provided free for all to use. In the menu bar above, hold your mouse over "Community". The second item down is "Contributions" Click it. Browse around or use the search to the right of the screen. Most everything you've asked should pop up pretty quickly. Just between us, remember there are only 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't!!
