Optimizing Images for your store

I'm a partner in a Soft Toy store called Cuddly Kingdom and like many I?m learning along the way.

My problem comes from the need to optimize some of the images already on the store to a smaller file size. When I download an image directly from the server resave it and upload it back with the smaller file size I find I've got a problem with the images displaying properly. The image does not appear in the category and product listing but when clicked to view the enlarged pop up window it appears fine.

When I go through admin and add the image that way everything works ok, but its going to take a hell of a long time to do that with all the unacceptable large images. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

I have an auto thumbnailer contribution installed

Thanks in advance

When you re-save the image, is it possible that the image is getting changed from somefile.jpg to somefile.JPG ?

Most hosted web servers are Linux/BSD, and filenames are case sensitive.

A link to your site would help.

Or maybe through optimizing you are changing it from jpg to gif.
