Modules not editable from admin!

I can not change any of the settings in any of the modules from admin. edit opens details, I can then change settings BUT once I click update the settings are BACK AS BEFORE?????

 

I dont know php so dont want to edit manually

file access is 711 for /includes

755 for /includes/modules

 

I am able to edit other settings from admin ie config catalog... customers all infact just not modules

 

does anyone have a clue as to why? have spent two days looking now.

have searched forum to no avail.
