Update button is overlooked

Hi all,

Several customers have complained that they cannot change the contents of the shopping cart. Some have checked out with one item and sent an e-mail requesting me to increase their order to 2 or 3 or whatever they wanted originally. I have to admit, when I first installed oscommerce, I overlooked the update button too.

Anyone else have this problem? What was your solution?

I changed the color of my update button and added some text directly below it. I am not happy with the new button color and I am unsure about leaving it or changing it back to the store color. You can see what I have done here:

My Webpage

I sure would appreciate the advice of other store owners that saw fit to make a modification on the shopping cart page.

hi knifeman,

without getting an actual account i tested the update button - both increasing quantity and removal - both seemed to work fine - note i did not proceed past that page however...

the color of you buttons aren't bad - perhaps the red is slightly too dark making it somewhat hard to see the word "update" on that button...

however - don't think you'd want to merely lighten the red - bringing it closer to a pink - maybe you could take it into an orangy yellow direction - and maybe greenify the 'continue' button - but really, no biggy.

i don't think changing colors of these buttons would have any effect on their functionality....

hmm i wonder if customers think if they press 'continue' it will update????

to address that possibility you might want to pop the continue button under 'update' button and update notice....

(???)

I believe this is only happening in the shopping_cart.php page - is this correct?

I could write a javascript -

When a customer changes the quantity in the box, the javascript will update and refresh the page

or

when the quantity changes it opens a small javascript alert window

Let me know what you think

Look here:

if you add the product and view checkout, you can see theres ways around this, either using a drop down list, or text header, both contribs are found in the contrib section

I'd have to dig in the contribs but I had the same problem when I set up my shop and it was quite annoying. Well, I would just assume it updates automatically when I hit continue.

There is a contrib out there that updates automatically when you press either continue shopping or checkout. Let's see if I can find it quickly...

Ok, took a while but here it is: http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...checkout+update

Feedback and suggestions on my shop welcome.

Note: My advice is based on my own experience or on something I read in these forums. No guarantee it'll work for you! Make sure that you always BACKUP the database and the files you are going to change so that you can rollback to a working version if things go wrong.

I have not been able to get on the forum until just now. Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I like the dropdown as seen in the test store by Stuart the best.

I should have known there would be a mod already written.
