Mrs Minx Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Hi, I have a live shop and it has been populated with quite a few products 139), however I have purchased a template and installed it. When it is installed I find that only a select few of my items are showing up, but the others in the database aren't. I find it odd that, even though I am linking to the database correctly and importing it - that the admin panel shows that it only has 9 populated products. Has anyone got any ideas about this? Many Thanks :) ---------------------------------------- Minxy :) "Keep plodding on to achieve your dreams"
Guest Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Did the template come with an installation folder (INSTALL) ad if so, was there an oscommerce.sql file in it, it may of over written your database. Stuart
Mrs Minx Posted October 20, 2006 Author Posted October 20, 2006 Hi, yes it has a INSTALL folder and within that it has a oscommerce.sql file in it. What should I do to sort it out? Thanks :) ---------------------------------------- Minxy :) "Keep plodding on to achieve your dreams"
Guest Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Basically fingers crossed you backed up before applying the template, you have over written the database and deleted some files, you will if possible have to run your backup .sql file (hopefully you did create one before applying the template)
Mrs Minx Posted October 21, 2006 Author Posted October 21, 2006 Hi, Yes I created a backup file - so I will run the backup in a mo. How do I go about successfully applying the template so it will accept all the 139 populated products so far? Many Thanks :) ---------------------------------------- Minxy :) "Keep plodding on to achieve your dreams"
Guest Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Normally templates are just the catalog files and a stylesheet, all that is required is that you upload the new files. But if it contains an INSTALL Folder and oscommerce.sql the chances are there might be contribs installed in your template also. I would download the latest version of OSC and use a Compare Program to see what differences there are between the original OSC SQL and the template SQL file. Touch wood they will be identical and if this is the case just upload your backup files and restore your products, if theres any differences you will need to apply the differences manually. If you still have problems, send me a Message and will take a look, have some time off today, wifes going shopping, so will see what I can do. Stuart
♥Vger Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Be aware that most templates use an out of date osCommerce file set - so if your site used the most up to date version of osCommerce before installing the template it won't do so afterwards. In effect you will have reimported all of the old bugs and security exploits. You'll need to compare your site files after the install against the latest download of osCommerce and reapply the bug fixes/security patches. Vger
Mrs Minx Posted October 21, 2006 Author Posted October 21, 2006 Thanks for the info you provided. I installed the template on a sub domain (my test domain) after rolling back to latest back up on live domain shop (both seem to be linking, so when you make changes to one domain it changes the other) - and funnily enough the sub domain website is now showing the template and all the 139 products! I deleted the oscommerce.sql file. I imagine moving it across to the live domain will cause some problems though! Live domain now looks like it did before. Phew. ---------------------------------------- Minxy :) "Keep plodding on to achieve your dreams"
