Parse error on Also_purchased_products.php

Hi there, I have a new store site, running on linux host and have had no problems until I started to add products to the site

 

then this started to appear

 

Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /public_html/catalog/includes/modules/also_purchased_products.php on line 43

 

I have looked at the code, but I might as well be looking at a schematics for a nuclear bomb.

 

can anybody help...?
