no email after order, items stay in cart, paypal email received

Hi there!

I am new to this, so sorry if this is a silly problem.

We are using discount coupons in our new shop (I don't know if this is important), and people are ordering, but.... for some reason, sometimes we get the order confirmation email, and sometimes just the email from paypal saying we have received payment.

When this happens we have to check the customers_basket in phpadmin to see what they have ordered. Their registration is recorded, but the goods somehow stay in the cart. Yet the transaction has taken place (and there is nothing in the error log in CPanel either) - please help!!
