Hi.

Do the OsCommerce templates work with already running shops?

Can someone suggest a good template to make your shop look more presentable. Our shop at the moment has no boxes and looks really higgledy-piggledy! You can view it at http://www.riversliving.com/catalog/index.php

Thanks for any help. That would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry about the double entry on this topic. Somehow loaded the topic twice - certainly didn't intend to. My apologies.

Okay, I've loaded 2 contributions and the shop is starting to look better, but I still don't seem to be getting any boxes at all.

I downloaded centre shop css download & basic design package 1-8. Should I be seeing boxes now?

Thanks in advance,

What are the permissions on your stylesheet.css?

When I try to view your stylesheet, my browser gets a permission denied, which means that I can't view of the formatting defined in that stylesheet.

NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit.

If you have a question about any of my posts here, your best bet is to contact me though either Email or PM in my profile, and I'll be happy to help.

Okay, I've changed the permissions to 744. Can you read the formatting now?

Also, I'm now getting some boxes, but would like to be able to improve them even further. Any suggestions what would look good?

Thanks heaps,

Yes, I can read the stylesheet now.

Its not much different from the standard osc template.

I'd recommend either purchasing a professional osC template, or purchasing a professional HTML template and hiring a professional developer to integrate it for you.

Or, if you think you have the patience, you can learn to integrate html into the cart yourself. I see you've already learned that you can add html to your header (although your shop is not currently fixed width, and your header image is, so it looks funny in different resolutions). other files that are easy to mess around with are

header.php

footer.php

column_left.php

column_right.php

IMO, the infoboxes are probably the most difficult thing to customize in this version of osC for a beginner to intermediate programmer. however, there are a few contribtuions you can install (unfortunatly, you'll have to edit quite a bit of php to install them) that will allow you to customize your header and footer of the infoboxes.

As for the layout for the entire site, unfortunaly, it's not set up in just one of the files. You'll have to edit nearly every page of your cart to achieve a different layout. not to difficult if you've done it a few time, but it can be a nightmare your first time.
