♥Loaded Commerce Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 For those who are new to news servers: In your email program (I use Outlook Express, this work with Outlook as well) Go to Tools, Accounts, Choose the News Tab (in Outlook you may have to choose Tools, Services, than Accounts) Click the Add button, and fill in the information on the First Tab [General] with your Name and Email Address as you would an email account. On The Second tab [server] enter the server listed on the Forums Page: Currently: news://news.davidv.net Select the Option, This server requires me to log in, and put the username and password osc and osc. Remember password should also be checked. If you have special connection issues you can set them up in the third tab [Connection] Finally Go back to the first tab [General] and choose the option: Include this account when checking for new messages. This way you will automatically get all the new post every time you send and receive (check messages) in Outlook or Outlook Express I am not as familiar with Netscape or Opera, if someone else could post instruction for those clients that would be great. Harald Ponce de Leon Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 Thanks for the write-up Salvatore. I've just added Helmuts news server to the list and is reachable at: news://news.fromberger.com That server is located in Germany, and also has osc as the username and password. Here are some quick steps for Mozilla Mail (also Netscape Mail) Select Edit -> Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings Click on Add Account Select Newsgroup account Write your name and email address Enter the newsgroup server, for example news.fromberger.com Enter a descriptive account name (for display purposes only) Click on Finish -> Ok Select the newsserver on the left pane, and click on Subscribe to newsgroups on the right pane Enter the username and password when prompted Wollah! :) -Harald , osCommerce
Guest Posted September 20, 2002 Posted September 20, 2002 Hi, I have followed your instructions for outlook express and the error message says the news service news://news.davidv.net is not found. In outlook 2000 there is no news tab so it cannot be setup. How do I get this to work?
Ian Posted September 20, 2002 Posted September 20, 2002 Small typo in the instructions above. Enter the server name as news.davidv.net, not news://news.davidv.net. I use outlook 2000 at home and I still haven't found an easy way to call up the news client from within the eamil client. You can get it to start by typing news:// into the little url box. However if it is set as your default news client you could always create a desktop shortcut to news:// Trust me, I'm an Accountant.
♥Loaded Commerce Posted September 20, 2002 Author Posted September 20, 2002 :eh: Thanks Ian for clearing that up. Best Regards, Salvatore Iozzia Loaded Commerce - Oscommerce - All Loaded Up.
