Disable shipping for some products

After lengthy searching, I'm a bit lost on this one.

I'd like to prohibit shipping to one or more zones for some products. They are either too heavy, to bulky or too fragile to warrant the international shipping costs, so I'd like to stop checkout for these products when certain zones (e.g. rest of the world) are chosen. All the shipping mods I've looked into seem to add more options rather than take them away :(
