Snowman Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 Now that we are starting to get ever closer to a release version of 2.2 im wondering if there is any interest in a mod manager system for osCommerce. Essentially this would be a tool that can apply mods automatically to your code. The YaBBSE forums have a program called BoardMOD which basically takes your code file by file and applies a specified mod to it, checking to ensure the code matches along the way. If there is a difference it alerts you and allows you to either manually edit the file to sort the problem out or skip it. It also allows you to reverse engineeer modified code and remove mods that have been already applied. Is anyone interested in such a program???
gje Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 I would love to see this feature in oscommerce !! Geert
Guest Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 This could not be reliably implemented until 2.2 is at least frozen. This is due to the code changes that could happen on a regular basis - and the contributions would have to be constantly updated in order to make sure that it worked. In short - wait till 2.2 is released. Cheers, Will M
Snowman Posted September 10, 2002 Author Posted September 10, 2002 Will while i agree with you it should be left till 2.2 is out, i think it would be nice to begin development on it now so that its ready for 2.2.
Guest Posted September 10, 2002 Posted September 10, 2002 ... nice to begin development on it now so that its ready for 2.2. a solid point :) but it should be [somehow] kept private until 2.2 is frozen (otherwise people will start to re-code their contributions ... and then we run into the code-modification problem again). Once the new version is frozen, then the details on how to package contributions so that they work with it could be provided. I think that the underlying code should be based on the 'diff' format -- allowing developers to implement the contributions themselves if the autopatcher somehow makes a mistake. Cheers, Will M
Carrie Posted September 10, 2002 Posted September 10, 2002 i love that BoardMod editor, it really makes things easier, especially pinpointing problems due to edits from other mods :) Please consider something of that sort for OSC, it'd be a great addition to an already amazing application :)
faab1 Posted July 9, 2003 Posted July 9, 2003 Since milestone 2.2 is only days (maybe hours) away from release, is this option to make a mod manager system still avalaible. I would love to see this being done for osCommerce. I use it a lot to apply mods to my Yabb forum and it works great. So I hope more people are interested in such a mod applying program... I am, that's for sure !!! faab1
Guest Posted July 10, 2003 Posted July 10, 2003 I think you are misunderstanding. *Milestone* 2 of 2.2 is coming out shortly. The final release of 2.2 won't be out for quite a while. Possibly a year. There are still two more milestones on the way to final release (3 and 4). --Matt

Daemonj Posted July 11, 2003 Posted July 11, 2003 There is currently a contribution that is in beta that tracks what contributions are installed and I believe provides a toggle for making them active / inactive. Perhaps with a lot of testing and assistance from the community, this contribution can be made to work as you are seeking? "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence." - A. Einstein
