TracyS Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Hi guys, I'm trying to make a decision between osCommerce with T-Hub or PDG Commerce. So far I am leaning very much towards osCommerce with T-Hub at this point (possibly the quick books add on rather than T-Hub depending on compatibility with QB2006) Anyway - here are some of my questions that I've not been able to find answers to yet, and I've been scouring this site for the last 6 hours! 1. - To customize my osCommerce storefront - can I use existing PHP/DHTML files I have created in DreamWeaver MX 2004 ? 2. - Can I utilize my own DHTML PopUp and DropDown Menu Systems on my site by simply changing the URL that each <li> item points to? 3. - Some of our products are given away free if you purchase product a or b or c. However, they are also standalone products that do have a purchase price if you choose to purchase them without purchasing one of the a, b or c products. Can this be done in osCommerce? 4. - I am currently using a PHP script to cause the specials to scroll vertically within a specific area on my page with a background image to make them look like they are on a scroll. Can I continue to use this with osCommerce? 5. - I am in the process of setting up a "testimonials" database. I want to be able to have the website pull one testimonial at random from the database that has the same "ID" as the Product that is listed on that particular page. In cases where several products are listed on one page I want it to pull one testimonial at random from all of the testimonials that have ID's that are the same as the various Product ID's on that page. Is this possible with osCommerce or should I utilize a separate database for this? Basically - I like the functionality so far - but I'm full of questions regarding the customizability of the layout and appearance of the storefront and the ability to use existing items. I just spent the last few weeks creating a website from scratch, including the MySQL Database and the PHP Code to pull the information I want from the database, where and when I want it. Now I find that in order to synch it all with QuickBooks I need to use a shopping cart system - so I'm just trying to make sure I'm not going to lose the work I've already done - or be forced to re-do all of the work I've already done. It would be great if I could simply add the codes for osCommerce to my existing pages - like entering $ProdList for example into the layer that is supposed to contain a list of the products. Is that possible to do? Thanks in Advance, Tracy ~Tracy
ddp Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Tracy Oscommerce can do all the things that you want it to do. However it is doubtful that much of your current work can be reused without some sort of modification. Others are welcome to correct me on this. Oscommerce is a complete package and is highly customizable. All the features you have described I have seen working in oscommerce shops. You do these customizations by installing contributions which are packages of code supplied by members of this community. I think you have not wasted your time learning about mysql and PHP and that knowledge will help you when working with oscommerce. Although you may have to start your site from scratch I think you will find oscommerce an excellent solution for your needs. Most of the specific answers to your questions are on the foums here and to use a more senisble method of check this out. You might want to ask a bit less in each post you make here on the forums. Remember that those here give their assistance for free and such a long list of questions in one post can put off some people answering. Backup before making changes. Backup before making changes! Backup before making changes!! You did do a backup? eh?

I apologize for so many questions in one post - those are the ones I was down to after my searching efforts - LOL. I really do appreciate the link to the info on Google Searching and I will be testing that out first thing tomorrow!
