leebring Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Im new here so I'm going to have a few questions. First, Do I need to build all of my subpages first before inserting the shopping cart, or can I do it as im building the webpages. Second, When I click on the osCommerce "New Installation" text through Blue Voda Im a little lost. This is my index page http://owndefense.com and this is my first subpage http://owndefense.com/pepperspray.html. I have many more to build as you can see. So my question is when someone clicks on the first text in my home page "pepper shot 1/2 oz" they will be takin to that page. So when setting up the shopping cart how do I set it up in that page when going through the "New Installation" process through Blue Voda. where do i need to save it to, and do I need to do this over and over again as I build my subpages or do I only have to install it just once, But where do I install it . Thank you David
Jack_mcs Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 From what I can gather, yoiu have an html site setup and you want to use oscommerce to handle the shopping cart part. That will cause you many problems and I would not recommend it. If you want to kep your html site, then add a link in it to the shopping cart and treat that as a separate site. Or, the better solution, get rid of the html site altogether and just use oscommerce. It can be made to look like you want and the whole site will be integrated correctly. leebring Posted October 8, 2006 Author Posted October 8, 2006 Ok let me say it in another way. I want to put the price next to the product on the subpage and a buy now button, then that would take you to my shopping cart for check out. So how do I set that up. Thanks David
Guest Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Ok let me say it in another way. I want to put the price next to the product on the subpage and a buy now button, then that would take you to my shopping cart for check out. So how do I set that up. Thanks David Ok if you just use HTML, from my experience, i had trouble setting up my shopping cart with OSC, but if you just say wipe out the entire html site, then install the OsCommerce App onto your server, that is basicly your whole site, with admin area, and such. Now if you don't want to use OSC then theses are forums for only OSC questions. Html is hard to code into OSC, especially if you have alraedy built the HTML site. Now setting up HTML for shpping cart, there is prob thousands of other sites out to there to help with your question? What your saying in the above question is just to link products to your OSC site, but if you just use the OSC app you won't have to do no linking. You could just build a site using OSC like i did, Now this is not a finished site, but if you look at mine its all just OSC. My Webpage My recomadation would be to wipe out entire site then start over with OSC, of just build OSC first test it then replace your HTML site!
leebring Posted October 8, 2006 Author Posted October 8, 2006 your saying i can build my whole site just using osc and not BlueVoda, but still use blue Voda as my hosting. Thanks David
Jack_mcs Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Yes, that is the best way to go. You won't be able to tell the difference between the two sites as far as appearances are concerned and the shop will function much better that way. Now, for the bad news, getting your oscommerce shop to appear the way you want it is no easy task. It will taks some hard work on your part (or you could just purchase a template) but the result will be worth it.
