Guest Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 HI forum Q: I have installed ASP and still cannot get the backup section working (see email below) do you think i have no option but to have a dedicated server ? Problem ::: I have issues with changing the Chmod on my windows server /// backups etc.... and have emailed my host asking them about this please see the email below ======================================================= Dear Kevin, Thank you for your enquiry. Permissions cannot be changed on a shared hosting Windows server due to security restrictions but they are in place such that they allow scripts to write to files on all our Window servers. However, installing ASP on a Windows servers allows more scripts to work due to the way it handles scripts and the extra modules that are installed for this. The applications may say that it is a permissions issue but we find that applications that need these settings, such as Actinic, for example, only work with ASP enabled and it is therefore not a permissions issue after all. That said, if you have any problems with scripts needing permission changes or not working under this setup, the settings cannot be changed on our shared Windows servers any further than this. If you think with these permissions and settings, your application should work, you should check with the makers of your application for further assistance as we do not support scripting. Otherwise, to change permissions, you would need either a shared Linux server or a dedicated (Windows or Linux) server. Regards, Customer Support Fasthosts Internet Ltd
ashlyn Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 You should be able backup directly through your database if you don't have any luck with the backup tool. The backups folder has to be at least 666, so if they aren't prepared to do that for you, I would consider moving to a better host :| Just my 2? worth. ------------------------------------------------------- I used to be insane, but now I'm just nuts ;)
