lewisqic Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 I need some help... I previously had a running oscommerce store that was hosted an my web hosts windows based server, everything was going great. I then discovered that i needed to switch hosting platforms from windows to linux. My host told me to simply back up my database and oscommerce store files and i would be able to easily restore them on the new linux server. So far i have not been able to do this.... The only things that i have backed up is my store database as an sql file, and my entire oscommerce store files. If anyone can assist me in restoring my site and getting it up and running i would be willing to pay for their help, thank you all. lewisqic
VectorSix Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 You can't really solicit work for hire here, but I hear your pain. What kind of trouble are you having? Were you able to restore the db? Have you loaded the files to the new server and you are getting File Not Found errors, or what? Next, if you have changed hosts or servers, has the DNS record been moved or changed to reflect those changes? Throw us a bone here and we'll see if we can get this straightened out. Don't sweat it, the important thing is that you have backups. My advice at this point would be to burn copies of your backups now before you start filddling with the original files (that's right, backup your backups!) V6
lewisqic Posted October 4, 2006 Author Posted October 4, 2006 Sorry about the soliciting... i didn't know. Anyway, No i have not switched hosts, i have only switched hosting platforms so the DNS servers have not been touched. I have been able to restore my DB, as well as upload my existing site files to ther server but when i try and run the install.php file and link the database to the store it messes things up, won't work, and then resets my database to the default oscommerce database. I'm mostly concerned with my DB over my site files, is there a way to link a new, fresh oscommerce store to my existing DB? thanks. lewisqic
VectorSix Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 I was just pokin a little fun at you. I was gonna help for free, but heck if you're gonna throw $$ around, I'll send you a bill. You don't need to run the install. That'll just plain screw you up. This is a simple 3 step process...well hopefully ;) 1. Copy files and import/restore db to new locations (which you did) 2. Modify catalog/includes/configure.php & catalog/admin/includes/configure.php as/if needed (new db location ?, ssl changes, etc.) 3. Test You should be good to go. Let me know how it goes plz, we get paid with praise and admiration around here. V6

V6  If the host is the same, the domain the same, I'm thinking the only parts of the Configure.php file you'll need to change are the ones with "DIR_FS" at the front. If you login name is not the same you might have to also change the database login details. Thats a bit more for nout chap :-) Drifter. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- OSC user for years and no coder, so I've earned my stripes.
