lt_oneman Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Need some feedback on this site. I'm new to osCommerce site and need to what more needs to be done to the site. rctoysunbound
kzod Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 I didn't really look around the site too much, I'd say the biggest issues you'll have is getting sales regardless of design. In my opinion, you're spreading yourself too thin. You have the product range of a mass merchandiser, with no real focus. I assume your prices aren't as good as the big guys, so you need to focus on a specialty area that isn't being served. I assume RC is remote control, but don't assume that most people will understand that. Pick your niche and position yourself as the expert in your field. Failing that offer a ridicilous amount of info on every category your are serving to show that you are in fact an "expert" in these fields. Every category should open up into a buying guide, explaining what to look for and what types of products offer the best value. Not what you are looking for, but it can't hurt,,,
lt_oneman Posted October 4, 2006 Author Posted October 4, 2006 Thank you for the feedback You have the product range of a mass merchandiser, with no real focus. So your saying that i'm trying to sell to many things? Should my list of products be more limited to only a few categories and target that more then a huge list of products? I assume your prices aren't as good as the big guys, so you need to focus on a specialty area that isn't being served As far as the prices yes I can't belly up with the same prices as the big boys, but they are a little over my price for that item. All said and done the price will cover my price, shipping and tax. Not looking to make a killing, only the sale. Every category should open up into a buying guide can you point me to some sites that has this buying guide like your talking about so i can see what you mean? Not sure I know how to do the buying guide like you said. How can you have a categorie open up to a buying guide on the oscommerce site? show me what your talking about on a site so i can try to understand this buying guide more and see what i should do. I'm a newb when it somes to this and want to go about it the right way to target items more then showing a big list of products. And my design is lacking too but have so much trouble when it comes to web design. I will make some changes and post them here when i'm done. Again thank you for taking the time any feedback is welcome.
lt_oneman Posted October 6, 2006 Author Posted October 6, 2006 Why do i have so many visitors and so few sales? Someone look this over and tell me why you think this is happening please. My site is not much differnt then 1000's of sites out there and yes if i buy something online I do it cuz I want that item not cuz i love the site. to me it's about who has what i want and am wanting to pay for that item. I shop online alot all the time and buy from many many sites but they have what i'm looking for. I can say outs of the last 50 items I have got online i was only unhappy with 2 items. one was broke and the other one was the wrong color but that was my fault when i ordered it they said deault was brown and i didn't tell them i wanted the red one. so really only 1 out of 50 from about 15 sites or so. not looking to have the worlds best site cuz well lets face it thats not going to happen now.
DefMall Owner Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 HELLO! You have a professional-enough looking site, and a wide range of merchandise...so "aesthetically" I don't think there is anything wrong. Since you are getting decent traffic, let me make this suggestion to you: Give some thought as to WHY someone should buy from you. Fortunately, or unfortunately, there are 100's of thousands of websites to choose from these days. Other than a wide selection of merchandize and competitive pricing (WHich most sites HAVE to have since the competition is so thick) what can you offer that they cannot. This question is rhetorical, but worth thinking about this weekend. If there was a value-added reason to purchase from you, as opposed to elsewhere, you'd close more sales. We all like to surf various websites and see what's available..but people only purchase because they 'need' the item or they impulsively (at the time of visist) feel they need to have what they are looking at. Create a unique niche' in your market and you should see some improvement in sales dollars. That's my 2 cents!
lt_oneman Posted October 7, 2006 Author Posted October 7, 2006 Thank you for your thoughts on this. I will work one getting this niche thing and see what i can come up with. Again thank you for your input. :)
abra123cadabra Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 First of all, I have to agree with finding a niche or at least add some value to get sales. Honestly, after seeing the first page, I haven't got a clue where to look next. There is nothing catching my attention. Nothing creating an interest. This could be a nice picture, info I would be interested in right now. You might think you had a lot of visitors but I doubt that. I started in January 2006 and have about double on the counter. Most of this is created by google and co. I'm serving a very small local market with a very limited target group. I have no idea what you did for marketing or even getting listed in google. Maybe start by analysing where your visitors come from, how many pages they visit and how fast they leave. You can then start to improve these areas. It's a slow process and you need to observe you potential customers. abra The First Law of E-Commerce: If the user can't find the product, the user can't buy the product. Feedback and suggestions on my shop welcome. Note: My advice is based on my own experience or on something I read in these forums. No guarantee it'll work for you! Make sure that you always BACKUP the database and the files you are going to change so that you can rollback to a working version if things go wrong.
