vivavi Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Hello, I tried to use OsCommerce long time ago, and for being a "dummie" I couldn't. Really, the documentation is very brief. After some years I decided to try again, finally I installed (hhorray!) but now... I can't edit the pages. I have Dreamweaver and it's showing empty pages with titles PHP. I hope somebody gives me a quick answer than trying to figure out by myself (eg.6 hours to find the "permissions') and before I look for another webhosting. Thanks and blessings VV :'(
killerbambam Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Ok you cannot edit php pages in dreamweaver. Well you can but you cannot view it. To edit pages easyily go to the Admin control panel. and the last section on the left hand panel should have inside "define languages" Then you should see a list of files (links) split in half so half oneside rest on the other. It will look like: (but without -------------------------------- inbetween) english.php -------------------------------- account_password.php wishlist.php -------------------------------- ssl_check.php cookie_usage.php -------------------------------- contact_us.php password_forgotten.php -------------------------------- account.php logoff.php -------------------------------- checkout_confirmation.php products_new.php -------------------------------- specials.php Now just open the page u want to edit by clicking on it. So to edit the index page (main page with welcome to blah blah click on index.php and then look at the whole code (copy paste in notepad or word pad to see it easier) and edit acordingly. Hope that helps. I didnt have any freakin links in my sig!!! Pm me for help any other things ;-) There!
ComicWisdom Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 If your not great at HTML coding, look for the contribution Simple Templates System... You edit in WYSIWYG in your Dreamweaver and then connect them to the PHP programs. It's a great tool and the instructions are fairly easy. Just between us, remember there are only 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't!! Remember, learning is a "do-it-yourself" experience; although, not necessarily a "do-it-BY-yourself" experience. The quickest way to learn is to forget to BACKUP!
vivavi Posted October 6, 2006 Author Posted October 6, 2006 Well, I think they are good solutions, but I guess I did wrong with the installation. I'll try to install it again, but I really wish to follow a manual with more details, especially if I'm using a MAC and Dreamweaver make this more complicated. Thanks
vivavi Posted October 6, 2006 Author Posted October 6, 2006 Also, if somebody wants to help me ( I'm accepting I am a dummie), I can give in exchange some work with pictures using Photoshop or a logo design using Illustrator or InDesign. I'll really appreciate that help. Thanks
