Ideal Config for osC Cart ?

Gurus,

 

My ISP is playing games with me - I had MySQL v4.x and they upgraded it to v5.x w/o my knowledge. I changed PHP code in my scripts and on 21st Sep, they changed the MySQL back to 4.x !! The code, however, is still working but I am now looking for changing my ISP.

 

What is the ideal versions of PHP and MYSQL that I should be looking for? I have seen posts recommending MySQL v4.x over v5.x. Is it ok to keep the code modified for v5.x for v4.x and use MySQL v4.x?

 

If someone has really good experience with their ISP, please let me know offline (IM).
