Is this happening to anyone else?

Hi there,

This started late August/early September, and now today. I look in my Awstats and the 404 error listings. And I see a bunch of really odd page requests - for pages, images, etc that do not exist on my site. Or they will request: /hlh,klk/images/etc etc.... the /images/ on does exist, just not the /hlh,klk/ part. Or they will have an image file that does exist, but have it in the wrong image folder.

There were also requests for MSOffice pages, forum pages, chat pages - all of which are not on my site at all. Just the craziest of things.

Hosting put a couple of different redirects in the .htaccess file, including a general 404 redirect so that any of these odd requests will be redirected straight to my home page.

Since this started in August - no: files, pages or anything has been altered and no spamming from my email accounts.

Just do not understand what is going on. I have no sales yet due to not promoting much - still working on a few odds and ends to get ironed out. I am definately NOT competition to anyone. So I do not understand what they may be after.

Any ideas of what this may be?

I get the same thing, it seems to be just bots looking for certain page urls and they don't seem to be looking for osC page url's. As long as things are secure on your site I would not worry about it. If you have their IP you can always block the IP's using CPanel.

I get these as well. And I DO block them from cpanel. Makes me feel better

Just an update. I had hosting look up logs and evidentally many of these requests were from Google and other search engines. Weird, eh?

We ended up doing a redirect for all 404 to my index page. *shrugs* No other way to keep up with stuff like that.

All search engines spin out no existent URLs when they're cataloging your site. It's part of the test of the verasity of the links that do exist. You block those IP addresses, you block a search engine.

Just between us, remember there are only 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't!!

The quickest way to learn is to forget to BACKUP!
