Display top level of categories

Hi,

 

I would like to have a link to the 'Full Catalogue' on my front page, which will then display the category list in the category view, just like if you were browsing any other category. I can't find a way to show the top level of the categories - is there a file that does this already or would I have to write one?

I did try that before posting, but foolishly thought that wasn't the right page. I hadn't given all the categories images so I didn't recognise it as the top level.
