Im new to oscommerce cart and had some trouble with the register globals but got that worked out.

I am trying to change the permissions from 644 to 444 on my configure.php so I can get rid of this message:

Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/empirema/public_html/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file.

but when I change the permissions, they reset themselves to 644.

Any advice?

Which FTP client are you using?

May be there is a restriction from your host and you can get in touch with your host for the same!

Im using filezilla, but it also does the same thing when I log on to the internet explorer ftp://

If your host uses cPanel as the web hosting control panel then you may find that you can relax permissions (increase them) using FTP, but you cannot narrow (decrease) them using FTP. So you can change 444 to 644, but not change 644 to 444 using FTP.

Use the File Manager in your web hosting control panel and you should be okay.
