Hi All

We are new to OS Commerce but are using it for our website and have found it to be great.

Our problem is that we have moved servers which has caused some problems. We have been trying to fix these errors using help from other posts on this site (THANKS) but having got everything ready to go we have now hit a new snag and hope some kind person may be able to help.

The message we get is:-

"Error: I can not write to this file. Please set the right user permissions

on: /home2/paulmben/public_html//account_newsletters.php".

Can anyone tell us how to get around this.

MANY THANKS

Paul

Use your ftp client (or similar program) to set the permissions. If you set it to "777" it will surely work but problably you should have something less "open" but I'm not the man to give you advice here. You have 3 parameters and 3 values each.

If you make a google search about CHMOD you will find more info.

Hi

Many thanks for your quick reply.

I am not sure what you mean by the FTP program and as I am very green at this sort of stuff am not sure about where to go to set the parameters.

Could you expand for me .

I really appreciate it.

Thanks

Hello again Per

Many thanks for your help again

I have got onto our server using an FTP program and tried to do as you say but now get the message with the red cross

Request denied.

Please verify that the file or folder exists and that you have the necessary permissions on the server to perform the requested operation.

I have also been onto our hosting server through the control panel and tried to do the same thing but get the message

Fatal error or time out

Does this mean I am screwed??

Thanks again for your help

Some hosts don't allow you to make security changes with an FTP program. If you got onto your Cpanel and WebShell and indeed changed the setting to 777, then there must be a break in the code from when you moved it.

Files to check are cataolgue/includes/configure.php and filenames.php under both admin and catalog

Just between us, remember there are only 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't!!

Remember, learning is a "do-it-yourself" experience; although, not necessarily a "do-it-BY-yourself" experience.

The quickest way to learn is to forget to BACKUP!

Hi Ralph

many thanks for your input

I have gone onto my site through the admin function and have looked in file manager and I am struggling to find the files.

When I find them I dont know what to look for to see if there is a code problem.

Any Ideas

Many Thanks
