Request for PayPal walkthrough - Australia

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm configuring an Australian OsCommerce site for friends. We are ready to go except for online payment options. I've been unable to find much information on these forums about Australian gateways so I'm leaning towards Paypal as the solution because they appear to accept most payment methods all through the one point.

There are many posts that talk about various Paypal problems and there also seems to be a variety of different contributions resulting in sometimes conflicting methods of installing files or correcting errors. Realising that people who don't have any problems are unlikely to post here, and people who do have problems probably will, it isn't surprising I guess that I'm feeling a bit uneasy on how to proceed.

May I ask for someone to post a newbie's walkthrough for installing, configuring and using Paypal for Australia including:

  • Which contribution did you use
  • what directories are the contribution files uploaded to
  • I've read comments about having the correct zone selected?
  • what Paypal account type do you have
  • what is the step-by-step process a customer goes through for the different Paypal account types (like leaving the website and then having to come back to finish the sale)

I know this is a big request, and I'm sure all the information is already scrattered across the forums, but not all in one place logically set out. I'm not experienced with PHP and I guess I"m looking for a magical solution out of the box.

Thanks to anyone who would like to help.

Cheers

I am in Australia and after trying several modules, ended up using this one - http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2679. It was easy to integrate.

One of the problems I was experiencing with other paypal modules was that people were getting through to paypal, making the transfer, but then not clicking on the "RETURN TO VENDOR'S SITE" (or however it is expressed) button, which meant that orders were not actually being saved in oscommerce.

With this IPN module, it saves the orders in oscommerce before the user is sent to paypal in an intermediate status.
