Andrea007 Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Been working on this site off and on for a while, would love to get some opinions on it.. I'm sure there's quite a bit of things that need fixing, I just stare for so long I dont see them :) http://www.iehydrogarden.com thanks!
financial-domains_com Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Site looks great. Do you have a links, link exchange area?
chooch Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 You should remove the currencies box as you only have one currency... US dollars. Maybe the header logo can be increased in size to fill out the space? Nice use of stylesheet but maybe a fixed width would make it look better. Upon receiving fixes and advice, too many people don't bother to post updates informing the forum of how it went. Until of course they need help again on other issues and they come running back! Why receive the information you require in good faith for free, only to then have the attitude to ignore the people who gave it to you? There's no harm in saying, 'Thanks, it worked'. On the contrary, it creates a better atmosphere. CHOOCH
Grimnir Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 The site is too wide for my screen (800x600). There's still a lot of people using the lower res, especially those of us with older machines or small monitors and the sideways scrolling is a pain in the behind. Apart from that it looks good :)
Andrea007 Posted September 25, 2006 Author Posted September 25, 2006 I do have a links page, it probably isnt set up right.. http://www.iehydrogarden.com/links.htm Thanks for all of the suggestions, I will try fixing all the things recommended. :) Grimnir: What size do you think that it should be?
ddp Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Hey no SSL? Why not? I'd get rid of the stock images on the terms, shipping, privacy notice pages well. Your site is so colourful I find the large text in the main part of the page a bit dull. Even black would ne an improvement. Try a few out. I agree with cooch that the site might look good with a fixed width. Nice job on the site it looks good!! Backup before making changes. Backup before making changes! Backup before making changes!! You did do a backup? eh?
smurk75 Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Andrea, Your site is way too wide. I have widescreen set and still have horizontal scroll. You have a whole-lotta stock going on that you can change up. Also, looks like your body is wider than your header, or maybe that's the effect you wanted. Other than that, good work on getting all your products up. How's T-mec? I've moved back to O'side. Sam www.TheTeaBazaar.com www.TheTeaBazaar.com
Andrea007 Posted September 25, 2006 Author Posted September 25, 2006 Ok, making the site a fixed width will be my #1 priority. :) I know I still have lots of work to do on the products, that's a work in progress. I'll make some changes and see what you all think then. Thanks so much for your opinions! smurk75: Temecula is just on it's way to turning into OC. Getting more crowded by the day :)
Andrea007 Posted September 26, 2006 Author Posted September 26, 2006 Ok, I've just realized that when I click on 'My Account' on the front page it just goes to a blank page! Has anyone had this problem? I dont really know what to do, not sure how long it's been this way. :(
Andrea007 Posted December 9, 2006 Author Posted December 9, 2006 I'm still having the "My Account" problem.. can anyone give me suggestions?
tastar Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 Your my_account link goes to: href="http://iehydrogarden.com/account.php/my_account_f/1" This path variable is defined in catalog/includes/filenames.php - the value of FILENAME_ACCOUNT in that file. Hopefully it is as simple as changing this value to my_account.php. All of the other links that I checked, like index.php, shopping_cart.php go to the correct file, so I don't think that it is a configuration file issue or a function issue. The site does look nice - very clean and straightforward. Some of the more expensive products should have more in-depth descriptions and/or down-loadable product brochures. And, adding reference material in general that will help present info about hydroponics would also be helpful. And, maybe adding some popular books on the subject to your product list would be useful. Hope this helps. tony
♥14steve14 Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 Nice site so far. The first thing i noticed is that your right column is far too wide. I suspect that its the search box doing this. REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP
Andrea007 Posted December 10, 2006 Author Posted December 10, 2006 Thanks for all the suggestions! I've removed the currencies box, fixed the My Account program with the help of samplusplus (he did all the work), I removed ALL of the outdated products, now only leaving me with about 100 products left.. all current products will be added with better descriptions. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! it's still a work in progress :)
Andrea007 Posted December 10, 2006 Author Posted December 10, 2006 Now trying to fix the column with that 14steve14 mentioned.. and looking for a contribution to add product manuals for the higher end products
dandelion Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Now trying to fix the column with that 14steve14 mentioned.. and looking for a contribution to add product manuals for the higher end products I recently got a new osCommerce book - "Deep Inside osCommerce The Cookbook" by Monika Mathe (you can get it on amazon). Maybe ask for it for Christmas :-) The first thing I did from the book was add the create flexible column definitions recipe in Chapter one. It is great then if you change your mind about layout you can even turn off a column altogether. It makes it so that it is really easy to set both the left and right column widths in the application_top.php file. There is also a recipe for adding your search to the menu bar - that way it doesn't have to be in the right column at all and your column problem is fixed. You should change the footer text in your includes/english.php file text to reflect your own site copyright info not osCommerce - but leave the powered by oscommerce line. Hope this helps
