aant2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 i have a site cooyah.com that is on my old host using miva but i want to transfer it to my new host and use oscommerce. what i want to do is setup the site on the new host server using the ip address because i do not want to change the dns until my site is setup on my new host. but when i go to the admin area of oscommerce at http://74.52.60.162/~hayooc/Merchant/admin/ on my new host and go to configuration it takes me to a blank page. This is the url that it takes me to: http://cooyah.com/Merchant/admin/categorie...df6643470ed9fd7 i know that it is doing this because i have not done a dns change. my question. is there a way around this? is there a way i can setup oscommerce on my new host without doing the dns change because i do not want to shut down my site that's on my old host until i have finished setting up my site on my new host. thanks.
ComicWisdom Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 I believe the only way to do this is to set up a temporary URL on your new host. Create your database and get your store ready to go. When that's done, transfer you live domain to the new host. After that, before your store will run, you will have to edit the catalog/includes/configure.php or the catalog/includes/local/configure file to the information that is in your temporary domain, except for the name of the domain of course. Just between us, remember there are only 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't!! Remember, learning is a "do-it-yourself" experience; although, not necessarily a "do-it-BY-yourself" experience. The quickest way to learn is to forget to BACKUP!

Hi ComicWisdom. What do you mean by "set up a temporary URL on your new host"? Thanks.
