Googlebot is putting hundreds of items in shopping cart

I just looked up the IP address and it is, indeed, a Googlebot.

 

Wednesday, it had around 50 items in the cart. Yesterday, around 100. Now it's up to over 150 and climbing.

 

Is this a problem or should I not worry?

 

Certainly, it's a great thing that Google is crawling my site daily, but...I don't know what to make of this thing dumping huge numbers of items in the shopping cart.

I see you haven't gotten an answer but I just wanted to state that the same thing is happening to me. Not hundreds of things but 3 or 4 things. I get happy and then sad. Its an emotional roller coaster. Out of curiosity, I would love to know why this happens.

I'd say nudge the googlebot towards the Checkout! LOL

 

Cannot say I've had this as yet though and google are on my site a lot also.

 

Perhaps disallow googlebot into the cart system with robot.txt perhaps?

You should be able to control that using the spider sessions control in your admin configuration. Let us know if you find out the cure!

Yes, it is a big problem and needs to be addressed. Be sure you have the Prevent Spiders option set to true in admin->Configuration->Sessions and update your spiders file.
