osContributions merge

I know that this is not really about os Commerce but this is general, there are a lot of contributions that I want to incorporate into my site, however I'm stuck doing only the ones that tell you "to put this below" and "replace this with", but the ones that I really want are all from a vanilla install (oh I forgot my store was a template) so it's quite hard for me to incorporate many of these contributions, I have downloaded winmerge but do I simply move a file from right to left or do I have to go line by line and move it over? also when the language changes e.g cellpadding "3" instead of cellpadding "0" what one do I use?

Any help and advise would be most appreciated.

Unfortunately you have to go line by line, it is always the best practice. If it tells you to change the cellpadding I personally would not do that but after the install check the page and make sure it shows up correctly, if not then play with the cellpadding.

When merging you pull up the page you have now and the contributions page. Then merge the changes one by one into your site. Some lines will be additions which is easy, other lines will have to be altered and some are deleted. It is not that hard, just make sure you have a backup first. It is also a good idea to add a note at the top of the page and list the contributions that you add to each page. Also make notes as you go in the code to show where you made the changes, it will help later on if you run into problems.

BACKUP BACKUP and then BACKUP AGAIN
