Back up not writable (but was ok yesterday)

i am in the middle of building my site and yesterday this worked fine but today i went to backup and it gave me this message:

 

Error: Backup directory is not writeable.

 

but i dont understand i have not changed anything nor set my crons to a none writable and when i check my pron they are set at 644 which is ideal but i then thought i would see if it worked at 664 and even 755 but nope didnt work.

 

i also have this message on the last sql save in the backup page:

 

db_XXXXXX_XXXXXX-XXXXXXXXX.sql.gz (forget)

 

i have changed the code and put xxxx in so thats not the fault its where it says forgot?

 

can someone help as i can not continue incase i make a mistake.

Hey!

 

On my server for the backup to be writable it needs to be set at 777 and not 775. Try that and see if it works.

On my server the cmods need to be on 777 instead of 775 to be writable so try that and see if there is a change.

thanks i can now backup but i have another problem now. it is not letting me compress the file so it is a wopping 1,428,753 bytes what has happened here has someone hacked my sight or something
