ok I am compleatly new to all this, and I'm getting nowhere very fast. I am planning to sell custom computers. The problem is, i need to somehow set up my web site to be able to select what parts customers want on top of the basic system, and run a tally of the price as they go. I was told I had to use a shoppingcart to do this, but this is not the form that the cart seems to take. I have been able to make the individual pages, and I can see how the add catagory/products works, but how would I do what I need? I was thinking a series of check boxes much like Alienware uses on thier website, but I got no clue how this works. I would be VERY Grateful for any help anyone can give me. Thankyou.

I guess it depends how many extra options you want to offer for each computer. For example, you could assign drop down menus for say Processors, Optical Drives, Ram, Hard Drives, etc and just make as many drop down menus ss you need. Why wouldn't that work? Just go into the admin section and under the Catalog tab choose Products Attributes , select a product, and add some options.

Check the contribution section for custom computer. There are several that do what you are looking for. My site uses ccc9.3 which did take some setting up, but it does work.

REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP
