frededias Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 My ISP is upgrading MySQL from version 3.x to 5.x. They have sent a scary-sounding email to be sure all applications on customer accounts are compatible with MySQL 5, or else upgrade them ASAP, otherwise they will soon stop working. Does anyone know if osCommerce 2.2 MS 2 is compatible with MySQL 5?
spax Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 From Update 051112 it is. See this for updates: http://www.oscommerce.com/ext/update-20051113.html There is a new update available now from here: http://www.oscommerce.com/solutions/downloads Best thing you can do, is download and install XAMPP from here (which uses MySql 5), download your site to your hard drive (which will be into the xampp/htdocs directory), load it up in a browser and make sure all is well. You may have some contributions installed which aren't MySql 5 friendly. A complete backup of your site on your PC is a good thing. You can test new mods locally before uploading the changed files. Once you have downloaded your site, you will need to change the two configure files so your local server knows where to find everything. If you get any problems, post back here and someone will always help you. EDIT: I just noticed the upgrade is from 3 to 5. That is a big jump so you probably will need to change things. I would say XAMPP is definately the best way to go.

They are easy to fix though so it isn't anything to worry about. If this is a live shop and you don't want to risk that, then you should follow Perter's advise and install a local server, although I prefer EasyPHP, or just create a testshop on your server. The latter is probably preferable in this case since you need to be sure it will work with your hosts setup, not your own.
