clubsguide Posted September 11, 2006 Share Posted September 11, 2006 Hi guys, i am pretty cool with using the software itself but i was wondering if someone could give me a checklist on what i need to do to start my own online shop... obviously im looking to use oscommerce but i want to be able to do credit card transactions etc. so what do i need to do in order to have a working shop which is also secure and safe against hackers etc. i already have *domain name *host *shopping cart (oscommerce) any help would be super as i really want to make this shop work but also be safe and protected... If you are planning on taking Credit Cards it is a very good idea to have an SSL certf. If you plan on incorporating PayPal then I would suggest you read every thread you can find and then install PayPal IPN. OCS is basicially, an out of the box setup ready to add products to and start excepting orders. Most store owners perfer to mod it and add there own style to the page. Simple Template System is one of the best supported contributions and I very much recommend version 4.2 as it allows you to do more than just an OSC site allowing you to make your site the way you want it to look. BE SURE TO ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR FILES ALONG WITH YOUR DATABASE AND THEN DO IT AGAIN I can't stress the above enough as it really reduces the headaches and loss of hair.
