preventing "bogus" accounts

While I did find acounts like "Phil Mycrackin" funny I would really like to prevent bogus accounts on my WS.

 

The person didn't use a "real" email address... he/she used [email protected]

 

Is there a way to do this? I did some searching and came up with nada.
