Removing Parent Category Product Listings (or at least make it 1 column wide)

Hello - is there any way to turn off the product listing if there are also subcategories to choose from? Meaning, when I click on Jewelry, I ONLY want to see the category choices of: Necklaces, bracelets, etc, with their respective category icons. I do NOT want to see products underneath that. I only want to see products once I reach my final category.

Or, if there is a way to reduce it to 1 column wide, that might help too. (Its a layout problem as I am using large images)

Thanks! :D

Hi, if you don't put any products under the top categories, i.e. place them only under the subcategories, no products will display when you click on a top-level category.

Jewelry itself has no products, only its subcategories have products. But if you click on Jewelry, you see the subcategory icons on top, followed by a combination of all necklaces/bracelets/etc underneath that. I want to elimate that list and just have the subcategories show.

(I assume you don't mean that NO category of the same level can have products... I don't see why an unrelated category would make the Jewelry category do one thing or another..?)
