Download directory error

I am building a store to sell my CDs for physical delivery as well as downloadable mp3 files for purchase. When I installed the osCommerce software on my server's site, it created a directory entitled "Catalog". Within the Catalog directory it created another directory entitled "Download". Is this the directory where I should upload all of my mp3 files to that I am selling?

 

Also, when I go to the store, there is an error in pink on the top that says:

Warning: The downloadable products directory does not exist: /hsphere/local/home/abasmadj/organ-concerts.com/catalogdownload/. Downloadable products will not work until this directory is valid.

 

This directory (.../catalogdownload/) was not created with install of osCommerce. Should I create it, and if so, what is its purpose? Did I upload my mp3 files to the wrong directory?

 

As a newbie, I do not know how to set "permissions". Everybody keeps referring to this on the forum, but I do not know what it means or how to do it. Can you please advise on this as well. Thanks.
