Need to upgrade oscommerce version

I have inherited a website that uses oscommerce. Copyright date is 2003. I need to add some coupon options which don't seem to be available in the version I have.

1. How do I find out which version I have?

2. How do I upgrade to a version that supports coupons based on order total or number of a certain item ordered?

The version is located in includes/application_top.php. Search for version. It should say MS2. If it does, then the files would suport the latest contributions. However, an update to the basic code was just released a month or so ago so you wouldn't have that in your code. It really should be installed since it fixes some security problems.

My version is osCommerce 2.2-MS2

How do I know which update I have? I notice the lastest one, with documentation, on the web has Update 051112 in the title.

 

Also, if the previous programmer made a lot of custom changes, what will happen if I upgrade? Will I lose all the customizations?

There is an update after Update 051112 so use it instead. You will have to install it by hand, don't copy the files over.
