I've just gone live with my site and google has spidered my site, the problem is that when i check it out by doing a site:www.chapelradiocontrol.com in google every single entry has the same information and link name and they all have a session ID. Now i set prevent spider session to true a long time ago so im a bit confused to why this is happening?

I've checked out other threads but there are lots of conflicitng and confussing information in them.

Can someone help me?

In summary

Why am i getting session id's in my google links

Why are all the links Chapel Radio Control and have all the same info in them ( i think it's my categories page its showing)

Please note im not very good with php so please try and explain anything in laymans terms

Thanks

Daz

Your site was live as soon as you pointed the domain at it so most likely the links were grabbed by google then. You will need to trap those links and report them as 301 redirects for them to go away. There is code somewhere here in the forums as to how to do that.

Google builds the link information from infomation on your site. If you don't have a meta tags contribution installed, like Header Tags, the results text is usually not close to what you want.

But there was nothing linked at all apart from the coming soon page, when i changed that to point to my main page it got all the links after that and they all had sid's in them.

I already have your header tags contrib installed, what am i doing wrong?

Thanks

If you had Prevent Spiders set to true from the very first instant that google could reach it, then it should not have been possible for the pages to have been indexed with SID's. So I can only assume there was a brief period where it wasn't set. But there is no way to figure it out now so you have to deal with them being out there and get them removed.

OK i've installed this bit of code from this thread http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?s=&...st&p=895303

Is there any way to tell if it's working? Ive no idea how to do the bit about firefox and spiders boxtel talks about in that thread.

Also, will this fix the descriptions too?

Cheers

You would need to store the link as in comes in to see if it is workng. If oyu have awstats availble, it should list the 301's.

Descriptions are created by googles own set of rules. You can't change them. Just see what text they are using and change that text on the page to something closer to what you want. They may pick it up.

Unforutnately the descriptions are just my categories listing which i can't change so im ot sure why it's not picking up my meta tag stuff

Google won't use the meta tag information, except very occassionally for some reason. You can somewhat control what they list by adding more relevant text to the page.

I think i've tested it as i added the user agent switcher in firefox and i don't think im getting session ID's as a spider

The only thing that worries me though is that Who's Online v1.9 (contrib) show that when bots come onto my site they have a session, i just hope it's displaying incorrectly :(
