Confused ~ help getting started

I knew that this wasn't going to be easy, but being semi computer literate I thought I would be able to work it out.

 

But I have looked at lots of threads and got myself all confused. I wanted to initally self host my site (I have a static IP) whilst I was building it. I have a domain name etc. Ideally I would just like to start working "offline" until I get my stock etc in.

 

This XAMPP isn't working for me, got it installed but have no idea how to use it. Looked for help files on how to use it but alas I can't find anything.

 

So currently I have c:/xampp installed have downloaded OS commerce 2.2. Now I have lots of files and just don't know how to make that next step.

 

Running windows XP (yes I know it is crapola and linux would be better but I just don't have it)

There is a FANTASTIC primer on the windows install on the fourm, follow it and you will be al set.

Thanks, I have taken the next step and got hosting that including installing the os commerce software. Now to configure it! Off to the knowledge base again!
