Pop-up Special before checkout??

I'm looking for a solution where customers would get a pop-up box with a "on sale" item that they could add to their cart prior to check out.

 

Maybe it would pop up when they click the checkout button, or possibly when the click the add to cart button?

 

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Tony, I strongly advise you to rethink that concept. I cannot even tell you how much it would annoy me (especially the variant where each add to cart opens a popup), but in addition most people have popup blockers these days. I certainly do. You have columns and/or a design to implement cross sale or upsale.
