How the team here have managed to keep motivated in coding an opensource project like this through all the recent critisism escapes me.

With osCommerce 3.0 Alpha 3 "Spekulatius" Released I see this as an ideal time for us to voice the successes of the existing osCommerce offering.

I respectfully ask that there are no negative posts in this topic.

I'll start ..

Up until July 05 I had little PHP experience, I had only the experience of my favourite OS forum software and I had dabbled with a well known CMS attempting to create the startings of a shop. I spent months on this but got nowhere.

I then found osCommerce, I was immediately impressed with the fact that not only did it install "out of the box" but it was feature rich and well tested as well as having a massive community many of whom were unselfishly dedicated to the furtherment of the product and it's features.

I got my first sale in August 05, very soon after moving to osCommerce. From there the core code has been faultless, I've applied many mods as I slowly got to grips with PHP but the core system has just kept reliably churning out orders.

My wife (then pregnant) was able to give up her full time job and work from home looking after my daughter and the site has grown and grown beyond our expectations.

osCommerce for us has been a lifechanger, thanks to HPDL the team past and present and of course the contributors. We would like you all to know the effect your efforts have had on us and our lives.

Hi! I'm just recently hired as a Junior Programmer by a company here in the Philippines - and have been working for more than two months now.

One of my first projects was to set-up an e-commerce site for the Distribution branch of our company. With no background in any e-commerce solutions or anything related to e-commerce, PHP programming, basic server administration - I spent my first few weeks searching the Internet and studying how to accomplish this task. So I stumbled upon OsCommerce through shopping cart reviews and published testimonials. During that time, we were already running a "sub"-distribution site using an open-source cart implemented using Perl. But since the main requirement of the project was to integrate the Google Checkout payment method, I was force to look for another shopping cart with easier implementation methods and a wide base of user support- both of which are distinct qualities of OsCommerce.

I have already finished the integration of Google Checkout (many thanks to the contribution), and currently we are in the process of tying the catalogs' database with the inventory system of the company. :)

Learning has been an ease and a joy with OsCommerce. I have enjoyed every stage and it has been a really helpful and enriching learning experience for me. Now, I'm not just acquainted with the whats and how to's of OsCommerce but also of other web- and web-related technologies (e-commerce, web servers, FTP, PHP, SEO, plus a lot of other stuff). All of these through OsCommerce :)

My big thanks to the OsCommerce team - selfless individuals who made all of these possible. Thank you for the kind and helpful replies I got from the forum - for patiently entertaining my "newbie" inquiries. Your generosity has changed my perspective a lot - in being a steward of the expertise and skills I'm entrusted with.

I'm continually looking forward to growing more with OsCommerce. Have been inspired to help others too. Thanks a lot - :)

I will add my $2 (inflation!) as well. osC is a great tool for the e-commerce world. I had an easier time finding out about osC as my hosting service includes it with about 20 other tools as free apps. Needless to say, installation was a lot easier for me! I had no php experience with minimal html, and I have been able to figure out or find answers to every problem I have had. So far the only Topic I have started in the forums is one about recommending an alternative use for a contribution. I have even been able to add comments to other posts hopefully helping others.

The team has done a great job creating an easy to implement shopping cart system, which offers additional enhancements that are provided by the users! It's not often that you can find something this good for free! It sure beats putting PayPal buttons all over your site! I'm still working on my store, so I am not live yet. I have been working on adding quite a few of the contributions that are available. One at a time is the only way to do that - found out the hard way, and had to start over! I figure that sometime over the next month I will be ready to go live, but one could feasibly go live within a week with a stock store and no contributions!

Thanks to the creators of this great tool, all who have provided contributions, and all who have asked or answered quetions in the forums that saved me from having to ask questions.

I have had little to no cause to critisize osCcommerce.. its great to have shopping app such as this available as open source so that us mere n00bs can have something to tinker with and work on as projects to help us expand our feeble php knowledge.

Not only do I have a live site running using oscommerce and other great opensource apps.. but its a learning tool for me.. bugs are great cos it gives me a chance to expand on my php by problem solving :)

I have not found many bugs however but just mereley adapting oscommerce and modifying it to my own needs has proved forfilling in its self.

The first script I ever truly got to grips with was oSdate but the development of this was too slow and very buggy.. too buggy to work with and have live

I then moved on to oscommerce to try my hand at a store and boy have I learned loads from it..

It simply is a great script... and to the team that sit down and code away day and night to bring us this great app I salute you all... as a webmaster and designer (n00b) just doing what im doing is hard so I can imagine how tough it must be to design.. code and develop and release such an app from scratch..

Just ignore the n00bs who come on.. cant even change a banner and start slagging away blaming oscommerce for it.. they are mere internet trolls.. no offence to n00bs who cant change a banner but dont slag osc off :)

I for one think OSC is Brill! You guys rock!!!!!

Kicks Butt. I used oscommerce for my clients project. No way in hell I would have completed this project in the time that I did and with such complex features. The community surrounding oscommerce also helped in major ways.

Major Major thanks to those that created and continue to develop oscommerce. I am using it again in another project.

I too would like to say a quick thanks to all involved in getting osCommerce running.

I also came across osC about 12 months ago wanting to change over to a server side site.

After looking at many other 'free' options (most of which are offshoots of osCanyway) I decided on going with the original.

The support from everyone has been first class and it has also proved a great learning tool for php and mysql at the same time.

Have just dropped alpha 3 into the test server this arvo and I must say it is looking good from what I have seen so far.

Thanks again to all .
