Andrew Yuen Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Overall a very fitting design for the items being sold. The lower left portion of your footer seems off/messed up. It seems to me that the gray should extend all the way to the other gray line in the left portion of the footer. Other then that your rollover link color and the stars in the review should be changed to red in my opinion to match the color scheme of your site. Andrew Yuen osCommerce, Community Team

♥peterpil19 Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Hi, Nice site! First thing I notice however during the splash screen is that there is no obvious button to skip the animation and go to the catalog main page. I saw that the "enter" button appears after the animation ends, but some users might not realise that they need to click on the animation to take them to the catalog until this button appears. I actually found that I had to click twice for some reason? Statistically customers are impatient so this does not work to your advantage. Second thing I notice is that your pictures are squashed, i.e. not displaying with correct proportions. This is easily fixed by not having an entry for either one of the height or width of the imgaes (set in Admin). Third obvious thing is the footer, which has already been mentioned. Fourth: SSL. This can be quite cheap and is vital. In fact, in some cases if it earns you ONE extra customer, it has paid for itself. Fifth: Google advertisements at the bottom. Others would agree that this does look unprofessional in a commercial site, but of course it is your choice. Sixth: Finally, an "about us" page is pretty important. Include details about your retail stores and pictures of them if you can. This further goes towards establishing trust with your potential clientele. Hope some of these suggestions help. I really like the website and it is obvious that some thought has gone into its design:) Best of luck, Peter CE PHOENIX SUPPORTER Support the Project, go PRO and get access to certified add ons Full-time I am a C-suite executive of a large retail company in Australia. Guest Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I'm going to also agree that adding a SKIP INTRO button is a must. I'll also agree with the rollover color change. It's always nice to be assured you'r mouse is over the right spot to click :)

Second thing I notice is that your pictures are squashed, i.e. not displaying with correct proportions. This is easily fixed by not having an entry for either one of the height or width of the imgaes (set in Admin). Doing it soon. Third obvious thing is the footer, which has already been mentioned. This is not fixable i think as i have tried everything i think. Fourth: SSL. This can be quite cheap and is vital. In fact, in some cases if it earns you ONE extra customer, it has paid for itself. Where would you recommened I get this from? Fifth: Google advertisements at the bottom. Others would agree that this does look unprofessional in a commercial site, but of course it is your choice. Done i have removed them. I was thinking the same about them. Sixth: Finally, an "about us" page is pretty important. Include details about your retail stores and pictures of them if you can. Thanks, Lee.

alltshirts4you Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I'd love to hear your comments on our store. www.leatherandskulls.com Video intro  - remove it - the design is great, but intro :-( Languages - only English? - Remove the section - useless :-) Adds in the bottom of the page break the design of the page :-( Ladies Chart, Mens Chart - better in html Just my opinion
muskokee Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I like your design and pretty much agree with all the above. Your "home" link is always in selected (dark gray) mode even when I am on specials. Not sure about the yellow image links just below your main menu. A magnifying glass to go to the shopping cart? and a 4 way arrow to go to home? I would love to see a different shade of gray - lighter on your product info pages. Because all pages linked to index are the exact same nothing really stands out when I finally get to the product. You have some default icons that are meant for a white background and look out of place on your dark background. Your dragon table enlarged image is too large for my screen and the pop-up window. A scroll bar in your pop-ups would allow me to see the whole image. Your shipping and returns policy says that there is a flat rate of $7.95 for shipping but I am using pounds. You should have that rate change with the currency that is selected. Your conditions of use is scary! It looks really heavy and as a customer I wouldn't want to read all that to purchase a wallet chain. Maybe a condensed version with a link to the full version? Also with proper line breaks. Section 2 should be a heading with 2.1 etc under the heading. I don't mind your flash intro but it would be easier to read if you had a longer hold time on your flashes of words. A skip is definately needed as well as a turn off sound link. Good luck and great job! Sheri
Brooke Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 for the love of god get rid of the intro. blue lightning makes me want to be violent >_< .....and im sure the epileptic dont appreciate it.....and....no, thats all i got. nice site though. except for that blue lightning intro. oh, i said that already. sorry. What? Yeah, I can do that.
iofast Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 at a bare minimum a skip intro of some kind is required. perhaps just a static link below it could be done quickly - most people i know would have a conniption fit if they had to sit through that everytime they went to a site. otherwise the theme of the site fits pretty well.
iofast Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 actually, i made a new topic. i have no idea y i got rejected. can you guys give some comment to my first website too.. thanks http://www.woofwoofland.com Read the forum rules sticky at the top of this forum perhaps. I can spot one reason immediately why it wouldn't be posted.
Rachael w. Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I am pretty new to osc development myself so I can only evaluate your site for 'looks'. The standard 'notify me' and 'write review' clip art gifs are still there, they dont fit well with your graphics on your site. I have found that they are needless clutter (just my opinion) and could just be replaced with the pixel_trans.gif to make it disappear easily. I also agree that the languages box should go. Otherwise, I think its very nice. Great graphics, I didnt mind sitting through the intro, but if I came back I would want to just bypass it.
Grimmyfrombar Posted September 11, 2006 Author Posted September 11, 2006 Well Ive removed the Intro :) seems it wasnt really liked. I appreciate all the feed back. Its what helps improvement. Thanks everyone for taking time to check it out and leaving feed back. Whats wrong with the layout? Any other major change recommendations are appreciated also. Thanks again.
EatDVD Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 Only thing i noticed was that the text on the main page blends in with the black a little too much, id make it a bit brighter - its kinda hard to read.

abra123cadabra Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Hey, you guys must have really good eyes... I have serious problems with the colour scheme. The red on black is way too hard to read. I don't even want to click further into the site as I literally can't ready it with my eyes watering. In addition to that I find the font size too small. I rarely use the browser to increase the size but in this case I did. Didn't fix the font on the buttons though. I have to agree, the cartoon icons for write review etc. don't match the theme. And here we go again, couldn't find where you are located. In your shipping terms I saw Finland and Arizona mentioned. Tell me where you are, who you are, how can I trust you if I can't check you're for real? abra The First Law of E-Commerce: If the user can't find the product, the user can't buy the product. Feedback and suggestions on my shop welcome. Note: My advice is based on my own experience or on something I read in these forums. No guarantee it'll work for you! Make sure that you always BACKUP the database and the files you are going to change so that you can rollback to a working version if things go wrong.
