di11on Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Hi folks, I don't have access to my CPanel because of the firewall at work, but I can use the admin filemanager. However, when I try to upload stuff to, say the includes/languages folder, it fails because the permissions are different to the /includes folder. Is it safe to change the permissions on the folders of my website to 777? Is there any issue here? I presume if it's safe to allow writing to /includes it should be ok to allow writing to /includes/languages. Any advice would be welcome. Many thanks, Jody

Only images and temp should be 777 I don't bother doing backups. I love the thrill of screwing it all up!
di11on Posted September 6, 2006 Author Posted September 6, 2006 Is includes not supposed to be 755. Only images and temp should be 777 In order to upload files using the filemanager in the admin site, it sems as though I have to set the permissions as 777. Is it safe to do this? Thanks, Jody
Guest Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I would set it back to 755 as soon as you are finished, I would not leave it as 777 for very long. Also the images folder should only be 777 when you are actually uploading to it, otherwise it should be 755 also. Have you tried to FTP to your site from work, that might work also and would not involve changing permissions.
di11on Posted September 7, 2006 Author Posted September 7, 2006 Problem is with the firewall in work... The port my CPanel uses is closed and outgoing ftp access is disabled (I can't upload, but I can download). Anyone know any way around all that?
